ABFAS ELECTS NEW EXECUTIVE BOARD & COMMITTEE CHAIRS FOR 2008 -2009 ACADEMIC YEAR

Fairfax, VA - Members of The Association of Black faculty, Administrators, and Staff met on Wednesday, June 4th to announce the newly-elected Executive Board officers for the 2008 - 2009 academic year:

  • President - Mr. Mika'il A. Petin, Associate Director, African American Studies
  • Vice President - Mr. Calvin C. Haney, Assistant. Director, Black/African Heritage Student Affairs, Office of Diversity Programs & Services (ODPS) 
  • Treasurer - Ms. Colandra Coleman, Director of Development & Community Relations, University Life
  • Secretary - Ms. Nicole J. Sealey, Graduate Admissions Manager, Volgenau School of IT&E
  • Asst. Secretary - Ms. K. Collette Lawson, Office/Program Manager, Multicultural Research & Resource Center (MRRC)
  • Sargent-at-Arms - Mr. Garey Davis, Program Coordinator, Building Bridges Program, Multicultural Research & Resource Center (MRRC)

Dr. Dennis Webster, outgoing ABFAS President, extended congratulations and well wishes to the new board members.  In addition, Chairpersons for the organization's working committees were announced as well:

  • Faculty & Staff Recruitment & Retention - Dr. Dennis W. Webster
  • Fiscal Affairs Committee - Ms. Colandra Coleman, Director of Development & Community Relations, University Life
  • Personal & Professional Development - Dr. Renay Scales, Director, Multicultural Research & Resource Center
  • Student Concerns - Mr. Calvin C. Haney, Assistant. Director, Black/African Heritage Student Affairs, Office of Diversity Programs & Services (ODPS)
  • Web & Media Development - Mr. Kevin R. Slaughter, Director of Cablecast Operations, The Capitol Connection, GMU-TV

ABFAS members convene to install newly-elected Executive Board officers and committee chairs for the 2008 - 2009 academic year.
